Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun
In response to a media inquiry about whom China hopes will lead mediation efforts and whether China will propose its own initiatives, following Russian President Vladimir Putin's confirmation of Russia's readiness to mediate dialogue between Iran and Israel, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated on Friday that after Israel launched military actions against Iran, China has actively engaged in diplomatic efforts, maintaining communication with all relevant parties, including Iran and Israel, to help de-escalate tensions and prevent the region from descending into greater turmoil.
Guo said Chinese President Xi Jinping put forward a four-point proposal regarding the situation in the Middle East and stated China's relevant position during his phone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday. The use of force is not the right way to resolve international disputes, and further escalation does not serve the common interests of the international community. The urgent priority is to work together to promote a ceasefire and end the fighting. China stands ready to continue to work with countries in the region and international community, and to play a constructive role in restoring peace and stability in the Middle East as soon as possible, Guo said.
